ERMENEGILDO (GILDO) GOSGNACH July 22, 1923 - January 27, 2008 It is with overwhelming sadness, that we announce the passing away of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Gildo Gosgnach. He died peacefully with his family at his side. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Irma, daughter Rina (La Claire) and her husband Bill Bodner, and grandchildren, Lia and Brent La Claire. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Joseph Franz and wife Grazielle, Camilo Cavalieri, sister-in-law, Maria Sittaro, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Matilde Pessina, in Italy, and left to mourn for him are her two daughters in Milan. Tata, Nonno, was born in Montemaggiore, Udine, Italy, to Antonio and Antonia Gosgnach on July 22, 1923. During the Second World War, he proudly served in the Italian army and has been a lifelong member of the Alpini. In 1951, he married his sweetheart, Irma and in 1952, their daughter Rina was born. Sadly they had a second daughter who died in infancy. He immigrated to Canada in 1954, where he worked for the CNR. He was reunited with his family when Irma and Rina joined him in 1957. Once here, we settled into Winnipeg, where he became a painter to our great advantage. Our homes always had a fresh coat of paint, inside and out. He was an amazingly gifted man who could master any plumbing, electrical or building problem. In 1988, he retired and devoted the last 20 years having a very close relationship with his family, especially Lia and Brent. He was an avid sports fan, and attended every sporting event that Brent and Lia played in. His support and encouragement were reciprocated with their great love for him. He took immense pleasure in his garden, especially his Italian flat beans and tomatoes and every now and then his delicious sausages would turn up in our freezer. He was a quiet humble man, with integrity who loved his family and his legacy will live on in many ways he showed his love for us, from the little woven chairs he made for his grandchildren when they were young, the doll house and hope chest for Lia, all the different pieces of furniture he constructed for Brent, the beautiful cupboards he built for mamma, and above all, the loving help he gave me, his ever so grateful daughter. Tata had a strong belief in God and was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Church and Knights of Columbus. We would like to thank all the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff on A5, A5 step down and the SICU, at the Health Sciences Centre, for all your hard work and efforts made on his behalf. We appreciate all the outstanding care and kindness and empathy shown to us all. We would like to thank our good friends and family that called, emailed and sent us cards, during this very painful time. We will never forget your thoughtfulness and support. Prayers will be held on Friday, February 1, at 7:00 p.m., in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 2, at 10:00 a.m., in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
